The event takes place in roads around Metaxourgio, mainly along Leonidou street. The main event starts in the afternoon and you will be able to see a masquerade parade passing through the streets with mainly music by tens of drums and other percussion instruments. People are all dancing to the rhythm and they will certainly make you want to dance with them!
A place otherwise considered to be dangerous because of many brothels, pimps and drug addicts, gets alive and people from all over Athens attend.
It is a nice place as it is full of small artsy and cozy cafes and eateries where you can stop to have a drink or grab a bite. When the night falls they all return in the square around the Municipal Gallery of Athens and start to dance while lighting fires and start to go round the "Gaitanaki". This is a long standing pole with colorful ribbons tied on the top end. Everyone grabs one of the loose ends and starts to dance around the pole, until all the ribbons have been entangled around.
The party goes on until later in the night and people keep on dancing and even jump over the fires! Everyone can do that and is quite fun.
