I traveled to the monastery of Agia Lavra to see the reenactment of the Greek Revolution Oath.
The monastery sits 4km to the West of Kalavryta town. The road is good but somewhat uphill. The monastery sits at 950m above sea level. I arrived early so it was very easy to park the car. The day is rainy and cold but it sets a nice mood. The place is filled with Greek flags and banners. The participants are getting dressed up with the traditional costumes inside the rooms around the monastery.
No matter the rain, a lot of people has arrived. The actors took places. They fire real antique weapons and the reenactment starts in front of the temple son after. The whole event took about an hour to finish.
After watching the event, I went down to the town of Kalavryta where I had really nice food and traditional galaktompoureko (traditional dessert with fyllo pastry, cream and syrup) in a traditional cafe/ bakery.
