There was a young man from Amfissa, called Constandis. He was tall, good looking and proud. He worked at his father’s tannery in Harmena transforming the goat skins into smooth silky leather. He was in love with Lenio, and he was happy.
Lenio was a beautiful kind young girl. Being an only daughter, she was priceless to her parents. She worked in her father’s vineyards, and olive groves. She loved Constandis and looked forward to their meetings at the castle of Oria, where they made plans and dreams for their future together, believing that nothing could take away their happiness.
Constandis travelled from town to town and village to village for weeks, as the demand for leather was growing. All his travelling was not in vain, as after a while he returned to Amfissa, with a ring for his beloved.
He rushed to Lenio’s home, intending to ask her father for her hand in marriage but as he approached the house, he felt an inexplicable fear, as the house seemed to be surrounded by a deathly shadow. His best friend Yannis, sadly told him that his Lenio had passed away.
While she was at the spring of Harmena to fill her jug with cool water a raging wind left nothing in its path and she was struck by lightning and was later found dead with a fresh bunch of jasmine entangled in her hair.
Her parents fell into deep sorrow. Not being able to accept their daughter’s passing, they sold everything they possessed and left the town.
Constandis’ heart was filled with pain and sorrow. He felt unable to cope with the loss of his beloved. His heart was broken.
So the next day they found his body below the castle. His face was calm, with a faint smile on his lips, believing that his soul would soon meet up with Lenio and that they would be together forever.
His end was not accepted by the church, and his soul was condemned to wander alone.
Thus, Constandis became a ghost taking refuge in the spring of Harmena, wailing for the youth he never lived, lamenting for the love he lost.
