A very old custom that takes place in a small seaside village, near Volos. The water of the sea is blessed and soon after dozens of beautiful horses go inside the sea to get the blessing.
On August 16 every year at the Saint Gerasimos church of Kefalonia island, the relic of the Saint is taken out of the church in a litany and pilgrims lie down on the street to let the relic pass above them, so that they get blessed.
A lot of people come and stay in the monastery until late, chanting for the icon. I found a small cell with a fireplace and I decided to sleep there with a local guy since I should get up before sunrise to follow the litany. Most of the people have left, headed back home, planning to arrive in the morning, for the litany.

On January 6, the water is blessed and a cross is being cast in the sea, lake or nearby river for that purpose. Some men will dive in to catch the cross. The one who gets it will have luck in the following year.
